Project partners

The project involves scientists from the Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS); CRC Reef Research Centre; CSIRO Marine Research; CSIRO Mathematical and Information Sciences; Queensland Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries (DPI&F); and the Queensland Museum (both at South Brisbane and at the Museum of Tropical Queensland campuses).

Financial support of almost $2 million is provided by CRC Reef Research Centre, Fisheries Research and Development Corporation and National Oceans Office.

In addition, research providers contribute another $4 million of resources including staff, vessels and gear. The project is supported by the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority.

Steering Committee

A Steering Committee has been formed to provide guidance for this very large project. The Committee comprises key client representatives from industry and end-users: Dr Peter Doherty, CRC Reef/ Australian Institute of Marine Science; Mr Barry Ehrke, Queensland Seafood Industry Association (QSIA); Dr Dorothea Huber, Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority; Dr Brigid Kerrigan, Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries; Dr Vicki Nelson, National Oceans Office; Mr Duncan Souter, QSIA; Vern Veitch, Sunfish; David Williams, CRC Reef.

The roles of the Steering Committee are to:

  • monitor progress towards objectives and milestones as set out in the funding applications.
  • review and endorse milestone reports prior to submission to funding agencies.
  • review and endorse media releases before submission to funding agencies for approval.
  • provide advice on major operational matters affecting the Project’s progress.
  • review and provide feedback on analytical approaches, interpretation of results, and outputs from the Project.
  • provide advice on potential management outcomes of the Project.
  • identify opportunities to transfer information from the Project to potential users.
