MANAGEMENTCRC Reef research provides useful information to Reef management agencies and Reef industries to ensure sustainable management of the Great Barrier Reef. CRC Reef research projects have given managers an improved understanding of issues as diverse as crown-of-thorns starfish, coral bleaching, seagrass, dugongs, whales, seabirds, fishing and fisheries, reef pontoon design, ports and shipping, seabed biodiversity and tourism. The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority is one member of CRC Reef. It has responsibility for the planning and management of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, in conjunction with Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service who are responsible for day-to-day management (see Managing the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park). CRC Reef promotes close partnerships between reef managers, industries within the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area, and agencies which provide research to assist industry and management. |
