Joint Rainforest CRC and CRC Reef Conference

Rainforest Meets Reef

The Rainforest and Reef Cooperative Research Centres will join forces in November to run a conference highlighting collaborative research solutions to environmental challenges in the tropics.

“The conference will be an excellent forum for anyone interested in the future of tropical ecosystems,” said Sir Sydney Schubert, who chairs both Reef and Rainforest CRCs. “It will also be an opportunity for researchers from the two CRCs to continue to collaborate on areas of mutual concern.”

Presentations or posters are being sought from a biological, social or Indigenous perspective on the following themes:

  • Responding to climate change and building resilience
  • Solutions for water quality issues
  • Sustainable economies in the tropics
  • Maintaining diversity in the face of change
  • The role of science in conservation planning and management
  • New era of environmental governance and institutional change

The public are also invited to attend an engaging and informal forum on Climate Change in the Tropics, to be held on the evening of Tuesday 22 November. Experts from across Australia will discuss how climate change could impact our local community, including agriculture, tourism, the Reef, rainforest and public health.

The Rainforest meets Reef conference is part of an ongoing collaboration between the two CRCs ahead of the opening of the new Marine and Tropical Science Research Facility, which will merge the two research areas.
