MONKMAN RESEARCH STATION FITOUT AT GREEN ISLAND
Home comforts and scientific equipment are making the new Green Island
Research Station even more attractive for visiting CRC researchers and
students. A colour television, washing machine, tables and lounge chairs
have been added, with an aquarium system, computer, stereo-microscopes,
wet benches, hand held VHF radios and dive gear drying racks to arrive
soon. Several large photographs of Noel and Kitty Monkman are now on display
at the Station to give visitors some insight into the early lifestyle
of this pioneering couple.
A reminder to visitors planning to use the Station that Marine Park
permits are required for all research activities at Green Island, and
a coxswains certificate needed for operating boats, such as the zodiac
`Kitty M'. The CRC Reef Research Centre Ltd provides financial
support to the Station and encourages researchers who want to use its
facilities to develop cooperation between projects.
