CRC Reef Postgraduate Travel Awards 2005/06
The CRC Reef Research Centre is offering financial assistance for CRC postgraduate students to attend conferences relevant to their research and professional development. Up to $1000 may be provided to a student in the 2005/65 financial year. Applications, following the grant guidelines below, should be submitted to:

Application Guidelines
Applicants should submit a written application (no more than 3 A4 pages) containing the following:
1. Proposed travel plans and conference details
2. Justification of relevance to research studies
3.
Details of why attendance is important to your professional development
4.
Budget, including details of where funding for costs not covered by this award will come from
5.
Brief summary of conference presentation/poster (200 words)
Applicants must attach to their application:
1. A short statement of support from a supervisor or Program Leader
2.
A short copy of their CV outlining the following:
• Educational Status (current degree held and degree enrolled in)
• Awards and Grants (history of funding including award, source, amount, year)
• Seminar Presentations (title of seminar, conference, year)
• Publication List
Please note the following
Applications (either by email or hard copy) must be received by COB on date of deadline. If you choose to email your application, you must also send a hard copy with your supervisor or Program Leader’s signed statement of support, which must arrive before the selection panel meet (normally about a week after application deadline). No application will be considered without a signed statement of support. Should you decide to email your application it is in your interests to check that it has been received at the CRC Reef office by COB on date of deadline.
Conditions of Funding
1. All applicants must be involved with the CRC Reef Research Centre.
2.
Students must be presenting a poster, paper or workshop at the intended conference (preference will normally be given to students making an oral presentation).
3. The poster or seminar must contain the following information:
•acknowledgement of funding support by the CRC Reef Research Centre
•a disclaimer stating ‘Opinions expressed in this poster/seminar are not necessarily those of the CRC Reef Research Centre’.
4. In return for funding, successful applicants will be expected to provide the following:
•evidence of conference attendance
•a short (~300 word) article suitable for publication in the CRC Newsletter to be prepared within one month of travel.
5. To ensure that successful applicants deliver the best possible presentation or poster they will be required to give a rehearsal of the presentation to a group of their peers and selected personnel from CRC Reef.
6. The award funding will be transferred into a research account and it is the responsibility of the student to arrange travel bookings, registration, and so forth.
All applicants will be notified of the outcome of their applications by 26 th August 2005.
