Postgraduate Education and Training

Program Leader (Education): Professor Helene Marsh, James Cook University

The objectives of the education program are to provide scholarships, funding, training and a supportive educational environment for postgraduate students within an integrated research program. The Education & Training Program has three goals:

  • to maintain standards of scientific excellence in education.
  • to guide students to employment.
  • to enable students to contribute to the strategic development of Australian and international marine sciences.

The Education Program is an integral part of CRC Reef's activities because many innovative research results arise through the activities of postgraduate students. Students undertake both applied research tasks and basic research that contribute to the strategic development of policy or industry practices. CRC Reef currently supports more than 70 postgraduate students.

CRC Reef offers student scholarships for targeted research projects, grants such as travel grants, student research support, and opportunities to undertake additional training. For example, CRC Reef postgraduates are offered training opportunities in leadership and career development, project management, media skills and science writing in addition to their postgraduate research program.
