INTERNATIONAL MEETING ABOUT CHANGES IN THE MARINE ENVIRONMENT22 June 2001 About 300 scientists from around the world will gather to discuss changes in the marine environment at a joint conference of the Australian Marine Sciences Association (AMSA) and the New Zealand Marine Science Society (NZMSS) from 4 - 6 July in Townsville. The scientists will be discussing climate change, indigenous sea rights, conservation, biodiversity and management, aquaculture and biotechnology, run-off and pollution in the coastal zone, fisheries science and introduced marine pests. There will be speakers from key Australian research and management agencies including the Australian Institute of Marine Science, CRC Reef, CSIRO Marine Research, James Cook University, Queensland Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries, the University of Queensland, the University of Sydney, the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority, National Oceans Office and the Environmental Protection Authority. There will also be leading marine scientists from the United States, Canada, Europe, Papua New Guinea and, of course, New Zealand. The joint AMSA/NZMSS conference will be held at Jupiters Casino in Townsville from 4 - 6 July.
