Guidelines for publishing CRC Reef technical reports
While technical reports are often written at the end of a research task
undertaken with CRC Reef Research Centre funding, they are not mandatory
for all tasks. Other products may be better suited to inform interested
parties about your research findings. You should have a clear, written
communication and extension plan for your project which identifies appropriate
methods. These could include workshops, seminars, CD Roms, databases,
fact sheets, books and scientific papers. In most cases, technical reports
should be published in concert with other media to ensure wide awareness
and uptake of your research findings.
The CRC Reef Technical Report series was published in hard copy until
June 2002. From July 2002, publication is electronic only, as a pdf file
on the CRC
Reef website. The files can be downloaded and printed as required.
The following is a guide to publishing CRC Reef technical reports.
-
Technical reports should be customised to suit the information needs
of the target audience.
-
Read the CRC Reef Research Centre Style
Guide for Technical Reports and format your report accordingly
(note: reports may vary according to content and stakeholder expectations).
-
Write a plain English executive summary in conjunction with your
Task Associate.
-
Arrange approval of draft final reports with co-authors, your Program
Leader, Task Associate, and relevant employer/institution, as required.
-
Submit draft final report to CRC Reef Research Centre Ltd. Reports
are sent to two reviewers. Reviewers' comments and recommendations
are returned to the authors.
-
Major reports will be checked the CRC Reef Board, CEO and DCEO (Research).
Comments, suggestions and distribution advice will often be provided
to authors.
-
Incorporate reviewers' comments into report.
-
Submit final report to CRC Reef Research Centre Ltd to arrange ISBN
number and publication on the website. For the ISBN, you must supply
keywords and the birthdate of the first author.
- Work with CRC Reef communication staff to arrange media publicity,
plain English summary for newsletters, websites, information transfer,
seminars and workshops.
