Dwarf Minke Whale Biology

LIST OF REFERENCES

General books

Baker A. 1999. Whales and dolphins of Australia and New Zealand, 3rd edition. Allen and Unwin, St Leonards, NSW. 133 pp.
(a good field guide; has photographs of dwarf and Antarctic minke whales, both stranded animals)

Bannister JL, Kemper CM, Warneke RM. 1996. The Action Plan for Australian Cetaceans. Australian Nature Conservation Agency, Canberra. vii+242pp.
(summarises biological information on whales, dolphins and porpoises found in Australian waters and discusses conservation issues)

Bryden M, Marsh H, Shaughnessy P. 1998. Dugongs, whales, dolphins and seals. A guide to sea mammals of Australia. Allen and Unwin, St Leonards, NSW. 176 pp.
(a good, non-technical account, however be warned that the illustration of a supposed dwarf minke is actually a northern hemisphere minke whale)

Martin AR. et al. 1990. Whales and dolphins. Bedford Editions, London. 192 pp.
(a well-illustrated account, packed with information presented in a non-technical way; perhaps the best, concise account of minke whales although it was written before the Antarctic minke whale was recognised as a distinct species.

Nicklin C (Flip) et al. 1995. Whales, dolphins and porpoises. National Geographic Society,Washington. 232 pp.
(a beautifully illustrated book which highlights modern techniques used to study living whales)
